Exiguolide, a New Macrolide from the Marine Sponge Geodia exigua

چکیده
A new 20-membered macrolide designated exiguolide has been isolated from the marine sponge Geodia exigua, and its structure determined by interpretation of spectroscopic data. Exiguolide specifically inhibited fertilization of sea urchin (Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus) gametes but not embryogenesis of the fertilized egg. © 2006 Elsevier Science. All rights reserved ———

Isolation of Araguspongine M, a New Stereoisomer of an Araguspongine/Xestospongin alkaloid, and Dopamine from the Marine Sponge Neopetrosia exigua Collected in Palau
A new stereoisomer of an araguspongine/xestospongin alkaloid, named araguspongine M (1), has been isolated together with 12 known compounds, araguspongines B (2) and D (3), dopamine, three galactosyl diacylglycerols, 24-methyl cholesterol, 5,6-dihydrocholesterol, β-sitosterol, and three 5α,8α-epidioxy sterols (11–13), from the marine sponge Neopetrosia exigua (formerly Xestospongia exigua) coll...
متن کاملModeling the Distribution of Geodia Sponges and Sponge Grounds in the Northwest Atlantic
Deep-sea sponge grounds provide structurally complex habitat for fish and invertebrates and enhance local biodiversity. They are also vulnerable to bottom-contact fisheries and prime candidates for Vulnerable Marine Ecosystem designation and related conservation action. This study uses species distribution modeling, based on presence and absence observations of Geodia spp. and sponge grounds de...

Evaluating the Effects of an Organic Extract from the Mediterranean Sponge Geodia cydonium on Human Breast Cancer Cell Lines
Marine sponges are an excellent source of bioactive secondary metabolites for pharmacological applications. In the present study, we evaluated the chemistry, cytotoxicity and metabolomics of an organic extract from the Mediterranean marine sponge Geodia cydonium, collected in coastal waters of the Gulf of Naples. We identified an active fraction able to block proliferation of breast cancer cell...
متن کاملCloning of the polyubiquitin cDNA from the marine sponge Geodia cydonium and its preferential expression during reaggregation of cells.
Ubiquitination of proteins is a critical step in the controlled degradation process of many polypeptides. Here we show that sponges, the simplest multicellular group of eukaryotic organisms, are also equipped with the ubiquitin pathway. The polyubiquitin cDNA was isolated and characterized from the marine sponge Geodia cydonium. The open reading frame contains six ubiquitin moieties, which are ...
